Error messages when running CardJIRA

Once you click the CardJIRA icon in your browser, CardJIRA runs a couple of checks, to make sure it can collect issue data and create cards for you. Sometimes, however, these checks fail and you get an error message. Here’s a full list of error messages, what they mean and how to solve the problem.

It looks like you are not on a JIRA page

When does this error occur: You’ll get this error whenever CardJIRA is triggered on a page, that is not a JIRA page. CardJIRA checks for some meta information in the head of the html document, that is only present on JIRA pages. If the information is not available, the conclusion is, that it’s not a JIRA page.

How to solve it: The addon probably has been triggered on the wrong page. Go to the desired JIRA page and try again.

It looks like the page does not contain information on JIRA issues

When does this error occur: You are viewing a JIRA page, but it’s neither an agile board, nor a saved filter nor a single issue. Maybe instead it’s a dashboard or something like this. So CardJIRA cannot retrieve any issue information.

How to solve it: Check if you are on the right page and navigate to either an agile board, a saved JQL filter or a single issue.

There seems to be no running sprint on this agile board

When does this error occur: You are probably viewing an agile board, configured for scrum teams. Unfortunately CardJIRA cannot find a running sprint – with the id of the running sprint, it can fetch all issues from said sprint. There are two possibilities why this error can occur: either you don’t have a running sprint, because you’re in-between two sprints or you’re viewing the report tab of your agile board.

How to solve it: Well, if you’re in-between sprints, you will have to start a sprint first. If you want to print issues of old sprints, you might put together a JQL filter, searching for those issues and print this filter. If you are on the report tab of the agile board, just switch back to either the plan tab or the work tab – CardJIRA can take it from there.

It looks as if there are no selected issues on your kanban board

When does this error occur: You are viewing your kanban board, so you are in the right place. But to print issues from a kanban board with CardJIRA, you need to select at least one isse on that board. This error occurs, when there’s no issue selcted – so CardJIRA cannot know which issues to print.

How to solve it: Just select one issue on your board by clicking them. If you want to select multiple issues, just click on them, while you’re holding ctrl pressed. Please note, that JIRA allows only to select multiple issues in one column of the board.

Cannot retrieve issue information

When does this error occur: This is a rather generic error message. When you get this, you are on a jira page but it’s neither an agile board, nor a jql filter nor a single issue. This is a fallback error message and there is a good chance, that this might never see the light of day because there are more specific error messages for everything (at least I hope so.)

How to solve it: Again, navigate to an agile board, a saved JQL filter or a single JIRA issue.

Cannot retrieve issue information there seems to be a general error

When does this error occur: This error messages is the fallback – if something went wrong and CardJIRA cannot pinpoint it to a specific situation. Again, there is a good chance, that this might never see the light of day because there are more specific error messages for everything.

How to solve it: Navigate to an agile board, a saved JQL filter or a single JIRA issue.
